Oleg Semyonov's brief biographical sketch
Dr. Oleg Semyonov had majored in optics and astrophysics and was graduated from the Moscow State University in 1967. As a specialist in optics he was hired by the State Institute of Applied Physics in Arzamas-16 (Russia) and joined the government-supported project on a high-power laser for military applications as a research scientist. After the end of the project in 1971, he had joined the Laser Thermonuclear Synthesis program at the Lebedev Institute of Physics in Moscow, Russia as a senior research scientist. Oleg Semyonov designed and supervised operation of a terawatt laser facility to study interaction of laser radiation with high-density, high-temperature plasma. He was awarded his doctorate degree in physics for his research in the field of short-lived high-temperature plasmas in 1980.
During the period of 1980 - 1997, Oleg Semyonov served as a Group Supervisor at the Quantum Electronics Department of the Lebedev Institute of Physics, Moscow, Russia, studying high-temperature plasma and developing a point-like X-ray source for application in microlithography and X-ray microscopy.
During the period 1999-2000, Oleg Semyonov worked for the Advanced Laser and Fusion Technology in Ottawa, Canada as a senior scientist. He joined the State University of New York at Stony Brook in 2001 as a senior research scientist. Currently, Oleg Semyonov holds a position of Principal Investigator and supervises an optical laboratory established in 2007.
