1. Funto--Don't just photo but FUNTO!
(Photo Locator, Search and Comparison Tool)
Prashanth Krishnan
With the advent of high quality cameras embedded into cellphones, photos have become an integral part of our life. However, tools for classification and systematic utilization of memories stored in photos are scarce. This project helps upload photos into the cloud and classify them based on different criteria. Some functions supported include: photo classification and searching, Adding comments for photos, Popularity Ranking of photos, etc. Although a photo by itself conveys immense information visually, some details like Location, Date/Time are not readily seen by the user. Color of Clothes or Mood of Subject can be noted by user and if tagged correctly this information can become part of a powerful query database. Friends can look up photos based on categories and rank them on popularity. This allows more interactivity among friends and their photos and hence makes certain photos even more cherished and also helps strengthen relations. All information regarding a specific photo is embedded in one object so transferring the photo to other phones will not delete corresponding comments/information. Location is obtained using Bing Maps and Azure Storage is exploited for (self or friend) photo/comments upload and access. User can tag unmarked locations and photos taken in proximate locations are automatically matched. The memory required to embed the extra information is negligible compared to the size of the photo. In conclusion, taking photos itself is an addictive pastime. Using this tool, photography as a hobby will be hard to ignore.

3. Integrated Parking Lots Assistance and Maintenance
-Kiran Tonse
and Abhishek Sutrave
The Project is focused at providing the nearest available parking slot among a set of parking slots in different parking lots for a car. It also assists the driver in locating his car while unparking. Parking Lots need to subscribe to the service and provide some data like number of parking slots and GPS co-ordinates of first few parking slots to a central administrator. The administrator adds these data to a central database. This database is located in the Microsoft cloud. Whenever a car driver requests for a parking slot, his GPS locations are extracted and the nearest parking lot is found. If it has free parking slots, then it is provided for the driver. If it has no free parking slot, the next nearby parking lot is checked and this process goes on till a free parking slot is provided for the user. The driver can also reserve a parking slot for future use. Also, while unparking, the software helps the driver in this way; It displays the image of the whole parking slot and the slots where driver is now standing and also the slot where the car is parked. This way, driver can have a clear estimate about relative positions of himself and the car. Once the car is unparked, the slot is available for other drivers. Administrator will have rights to manually change the state of a slot to occupied/free.
The software will have three major components; Administrator, end user (driver) and the web service. Administrator and end user (driver) works as mentioned above. Web service runs on the cloud and maintains and updates the sql database. Both administrator and end user communicate with the web service for uploading, updating and requesting data from the database. The web service uploads, updates, requests the data from the database as required by administrator or end user.
4. Automobile
Tracker
-Keerthi Yendamuri and Kishen Machamada
In this project, we design a toll that can track the location of automobile. We initially started with the idea helping track the location of a college running bus service for its students. The location of these buses can be tracked at different times with the help of this application. Each of the bus drivers would have the windows phone which would constantly send its coordinates to the headquarters. This way the headquarters would be able to keep a track of its buses. This location is then relayed back to the students who wouldn’t have to waste their time unnecessarily waiting at the bus stop. With the help of the relay service, the buses would be able to communicate with each other as well as the headquarters. We realized that this project can be made use for not just this certain case of tracking, but as a general automobile tracking system. Thus, this project would be of very practical and pertinent to today’s use.

This report represents an application called “Mobile Smart Meter” development on Window Phone 7 platform. This application is part of “Hawaii Project”. It allows people to check real-time energy consumption and energy consumption summary anywhere and anytime with a Window Phone 7 on hands. Also, the usage from each user could be sent to a cloud, which could facilitate a utility supplier to provide timely update of the energy price based on the total utility usage from all associated customers. Computation and storage function in Windows Azure platform will be very helpful in supporting these functions. A user has the option to send control back to the home to control the home devices to adapt their usage patterns based on the energy cost.
6. Check-in
Indu Vijayan
The “Check-In” application for the Windows Phone 7, provides the facility of ‘checking-in’ to a real-world location for any user of the phone with the cloud access. This facilitates the user to communicate to everyone on the cloud, if he wants to, about his current locations such as bars, parks and live concerts etc. The user can post comments and read about the place from the previous posts left by other users. The comments about a place also help the user to get a review about the place. This app is implemented using Visual Studio 2010 and C# and XAML languages. It uses the BING maps SOAP services for locating the real world location of the user and visually show the map for the user. The user can comment on the page by speaking out his comment. These are captured and converted to text and stored on the page. Any comments/check-ins is visible to any other user checking into the same location. The “Check-In” app is a very useful tool for telling your friends where you are presently. It also helps travellers to choose a place for dining or shopping based on the reviews from other people.
7. Delivery Pad-Deliveryman’s Helper
-
“Delivery Pad” is a helper for the delivery of
goods, so a delivery man is the user of this application. This application could provide the route
between a user and his customers in the database and when the user arrives at
the delivery location, the pad could automatically make a phone call or send
auto text to his customers. The
delivery pad exploits a ser of services: speech to text service, Bing
Maps, storage and phone launchers.
It supposes to have five basic parts. One is to log in. If a user has not set up the account yet, he could use speech to text service to set up the account. Second is to load order data to the application. Third is to check the order details and find the route from the user to his customer. Fourth is to send auto text or make a phone call to the customer. Last, complete the order delivery status.
The snapshots can be accessed here, the demo is here.
8. No Boundaries
-Fenghe Liu and Guo Li
There are many softwares on the market for iOS and Android. However, Windows Phone 7, which is new mobile device OS with a lot of potentials, needs more applications to enhance its user experience. “No Boundaries”, a cloud based Windows Phone 7 program, will provide an excellent translation service for all Windows Phone 7 users. “No Boundaries” combines App API and Microsoft Windows Azure and exploits Microsoft speech-to-text service and Google translation function to feature a more accurate speech-to-text translation service.
9. Easy Drive
-Xiang Xu and Ting Wan
This project designs a software tool to facilitate services in a community environment. Specifically, users can share locations with their friend, search the people around and add some interesting but unknown people in the neighborhood upon permission. Also, a newly speech to text service of Microsoft is used in this software to allow user to conveniently input the location of interests. This project includes seven parts :
Ø Log-in
Ø Searching people around
Ø Tracking oneself
Ø Friend list management
Ø Locate the friends
Ø Find a location
Ø Web searching
With these function parts, the easy-drive software is well formed.
10. Place Location
and Information Search based on OCR Cloud Technique
- Tong Zhou, Yifei
Wang and Chen Li
The goal of this project is to help people locate a place or search items of which they can take a photo using windows 7 devices. The Microsoft OCR service is exploited to get the text out of the photos and the obtained text can be searched over the Internet for more detailed information.
11. WP7
application using OCR and search online
-Ying Di and Sha
Tong
People
often need to retrieve the text in a picture. For example, people may want to
retrieve the name of the food on the menu and search the name online to get the
idea if the food is desirable. This project designs an application for WP7 to
realize this kind of function and add some new behaviors. The OCR service is
used to extract the text which is stored in a file in the application and the
corresponding text can be searched over the internet.
