801s The F-801 is Nikon's second generation AF SLR. It replaced the earlier F501 with an even speedier AF. The shutter speed range was a generous 30 sec - 1/8000 sec., a top sync speed of 1/250 sec. It was also the world's fastest shutter speed SLR in its 1/8000 sec. (This record holds until the Minolta's Maxxum 9xi's 1/12000th sec in 1992). The F-801 used Nikon's developed 5 segments Matrix metering and has built-in 3.2 fps motor drives. It is essentially a multimode SLR that has various 'popular' exposure control modes such as Aperture Priority AE, Shutter Priority AE, Programmed AE (Three programs in standard, High speed or DOF mode) and Manual exposure control. Some of these features can be combined and enhanced further when used with the dedicated MF-21 multi function databack (Such as Auto Exposure Bracketing etc.). With the innovative Matrix TTL, center-weighted TTL, Matrix balance fill flash capability with choices of either front or rear curtain sync with the powerful dedicated SB-24 flash, and a metering system either in Matrix or center-weighted metering as the core metering systems, the F-801 was an immensely successful AF SLR commercially.
